Hi and welcome to Carlos Maldonado Art! Here I'll be showcasing my exclusive collection of original artworks and custom art projects. As an artist from Iowa City, Iowa. My artistic journey has been defined by a dedication to plein air painting; primarily utilizing acrylic and gouache. With over two decades of artistic experience, I embarked on a full-time painting career in 2019. When I’m not painting en plein air, I work from my home studio.
My muse lies in the ever-changing landscape and our profound connection to it. In each stroke of my brush, I aspire to transcend the ordinary, amplifying and intensifying the hues of our world while preserving the delicate interplay of light and shadow. My mission is to craft scenes that resonate with viewers, fostering a sense of unity with the environment and a profound appreciation for its beauty.
In 2018 I started plein air painting (painting outdoors on location). I joined a group on Facebook called Iowa Plein Air Painters and started meeting up with them to paint. I then discovered plein air competitions and I've been hooked ever since. I travel to different states throughout the year for competitions & have won various awards. Pet Portraits make a fantastic gift for yourself or loved ones. Pets alter our lives for the better so there's no better way to celebrate the positive impact our loved little ones have on our lives than by immortalizing them in art. I look forward to helping you create your perfect original pet portrait.

There is an additional charge of $75 for each additional pet in the same photo. Discounts available when commissioning multiple paintings. Please provide a high quality photo or photos, better photos=better paintings!
Portraiture is a complex style of art, but I do love a challenge. The portraits I enjoy doing are more abstract and impressionistic rather than an attempt at realism. Prices for portraits are higher than my other commissions due to the fact that they require more time and specificity.
